Hello,
I own an ID5 since December last year. Looking at my software version in the car, it is 3.7. My colleague recently got an ID4 since last month and he has version 4.1. I thought the software of the electric ID cars were updated automatically. I have the We Connect app and am logged in all the time. What is the cause? Is this a software upgrade for which one has to visit the dealer? Can the 2023 model year have version 4.1 as well? thnx.
software version
VW are very tight-lipped about software updates, so what follows is conjecture based on forums and the "official" Facebook group.
V3.7 might be as good as it gets for your car. Many users think that 4.0 and beyond need later hardware.
My 2022 model was on 3.0 until a few weeks ago. I was told that an update to 3.2 needed a workshop visit, and that future updates would then be possible OTA. In the event, when I collected the car it was on 3.5, and a few days later it updated itself to 3.7. I'm kind of expecting that's all my car will get.
Having said that I haven't noticed any dramatic improvements since 3.0, and if anything the infotainment is a bit more glitchy...!

Only models of MY2024 gets software 4.x as they have extra hardware such as battery preconditioning so I am afraid any pre 2024 ID5s and 4s will not get that software . Sorry

Related: we received our two ID4s six months apart about three years ago. They each came with different installed versions. Thereafter they got their OTA updates at significantly different times, and never caught up with each other. Apparently VW install updates in batches based on VIN grouping…said my local dealer.
I will post again when the ID5 arrives in March.

Took delivery of our new ID5 today. For info, it came with software version 5.2 pre-installed.
So far so good, 95% the same as 2023 ID4.

In case it helps, with 5.2 you need to have Bluetooth 4.1 or newer installed on your phone before the car can successfully pair.Bedford EV wrote: ↑Sat Mar 01, 2025 2:06 pm Took delivery of our new ID5 today. For info, it came with software version 5.2 pre-installed.

Regarding the car, love it. Need to get newer phone though.
